Picture the scene: a quiet back road between Ings and Troutbeck on a breezy Lake District summer’s day when a family tumbles out of their people carrier next to a gate.
The children and mother stare intently at their smartphones. Their dog looks bemused and possibly a little resigned, my dog looks vainly in hope of an extra tickle or two. Were they lost, was the car in trouble or perhaps they had a family emergency and needed to get in touch with somebody urgently?
I couldn’t help myself, curiosity gets the better of me and a polite “are you alright there” tumbles from my lips. “Pokemon” comes the response. Clearly I needn’t have worried too much then. Further down the road a couple are sitting in their car attending to their own electronic devices.
Needless to say I felt one conversation about computer generated creatures was enough for one day and my dog was impatient to try and “catch ‘em all”. Rabbits, squirrelsand deer that is, not Raichus, Snorlaxs and Drozees – whatever they all are!
