Top conservationist recognised at AONB conference

Many congratulations to Rob Petley-Jones, who was presented with the Bittern Award at the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’s (AONB) conference.

Rob, who works for Natural England, has managed the Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve (NNR) since 1992, he will retire later this year. Over the quarter century that he has managed Gait Barrows NNR, Rob has developed and shared his considerable habitat expertise, particularly around butterfly conservation, to ensure that the special limestone landscape of Gait Barrows is managed in a way that conserves its iconic habitats and species. He was also instrumental in protecting, raising the profile of and reproducing lady’s slipper orchids and his dedication has helped to bring these flowers back from the brink of extinction.
